Today's topic is Cats; a subject I'm familiar with, since I am owned by one. Cats have attitude; unlike dogs, which actually seem to crave our affection.
A common misconception about felines is that they are your pet. In fact, a cat knows who's in control, and the sooner you concede that fact, the better. They are clever. It takes them no time to have us trained to do exactly what they want.
Cats never forget; they simply bide their time until they can extract their revenge. For example, the other night I gave Puma, our resident feline, a can of cat food. He told me that he didn't like that brand. I informed him that if he didn't want it, he'd be stuck with dry food until the following day; demonstrating my human superiority. The next morning I discovered the regurgitated remains of both types of food on the carpet in the hall.
Puma further demonstrates the FDS (Feline Dominate Syndrome) over humans by teaching my daughters how to dance. It's a simple matter of strategically placing teeth on their feet as they walk across the floor. His controlling behavior probably stems from the fact that he believes a human was responsible for his being neutered.
Though the family is often the objects of Puma's relentless stalking, we aren't alone. If an unwitting bug, dustbunny or even a shadow should cross his path, it is relentlessly attacked. This morning, a one inch lizard scurried through the door. It was immediately determined to be a dangerous intruder and pounced upon.
Thanks to the quick actions of Shannon, it survived with only the loss of a tail; a small price to pay considering it's options. I was able to release it into the wild where it can reproduce and provide future generations of feline amusement.
