Here are some "legacy"
jokes, those written mostly in the days before the WWW (World Wide Web).
In those days, there were BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems) that you have to
dial up and connect to via modem. Any serious BBS'er had an extensive list
of phone numbers that he called on a regular basis so he can
download the latest files and read any new messages. Those of us who
remember those days (and what days they were!) can appreciate these jokes.
Of course there was the internet, but not as it is known today. It was
text based and one had to know some Unix commands in order to use it, but
there was lot of information freely available. In those days, there was something
exciting about connecting to a computer in another country!
Anyway, one of the series of jokes I have in the links is the "Bastard Operator From Hell" (BFOH). This is a
series of satirical essays written about a system operator, equivalent to
a Network Administrator working in an IT department today.
